Antariksha Labs, an entrepreneurial research and development corporation, is inviting students across different streams for the first-ever Annual Balloon Competition in India. This competition is open for students from colleges and universities who wish to get hands-on experience on some practical projects.
What are BalloonSats?
BalloonSats are considered to be inexpensive tools to put experiments in a near-space environment. It consists of two parts: the launcher, i.e a helium filled balloon, and a lander, i.e a structure with payload. Students will have to design and build a small electronic payload, this payload will be attached with ham radio, GPS tracker, Radar reflector all tied with balloon filled with helium. The target is to launch this BalloonSat coupled up with a module containing the payload, which will have various experiments designed by students. BalloonSat gives is an affordable way for students to acquire basic knowledge as well as the challenges faced in building a satellite.
What the students can gain from this competition
The interested students can apply in this competition as a team who will then design and build a space-type system with all the necessary design and performance specification. The initial selection will be based on the idea for the BalloonSat submitted by the respected teams.
This competition is a perfect opportunity for the students to gain experience of a real space mission right from design, integration, testing, launching, data analysis and then presentation of the results.
As compared to other space-related competitions which are paper designed, this competition gives an opportunity to get involved with the functionalities of a complex engineering project.
It is open to students from streams of different colleges, and the overall goal is to stimulate interests from the students in space and technology.
