Yahoo! acquires San Francisco-based communication service MessageMe
After a long pause, Yahoo! is back in acquisition mood. The internet giant has acqui-hired San Francisco-based MessageMe. Founded by Justin Rosenthal and Arjun Sethi (formerly CEO Lolapps) in 2012, MessageMe is a communication service that helps facilitate different mediums of communication in a simple mobile experience.
As a part of the deal, MessageMe team will move to Yahoo! and the service will be shut down. It is still not clear that what roles have been assigned to the MessageMe team. Given their experience in social gaming and mobile messaging apps, they might help Yahoo! on similar lines.
Earlier in 2013, MessageMe has raised a total of $11.9 million from ex-Mozilla CEO John Lilly of Greylock Partners, True Ventures, First Round Capital, Google Ventures, SVAngel, Resolut.vc, Andreessen Horowitz, and Social+Capital Partnership.
Message me officially announced on their website,
We built MessageMe to explore our vision of how expressive and fun online communication should be. It’s been an incredible journey and we really appreciate all the support we’ve received from all of you over the last two years. The team at Yahoo shares our passion for connecting people in inspiring ways and we’re thrilled about the impact we can make with them.
The MessageMe application will be shutting down, allowing us to focus on helping build the best mobile communications products for Yahoo users.
