"With regards to the latest directives to On Demand Transportation Technologies Aggregators(ODTTA), Uber has received an Offer for Licence from State Transport Authority of the West Bengal Government", Uber said in a statement in Kolkata.

West Bengal is one of the first states in India to recognise technology platforms like Uber, it said. "We applaud the West Bengal government for being among the first states to issue progressive regulations for technology companies like Uber," said Ashwin Dias, GM (Uber East).

"We are happy to receive our Offer for License and look forward to creating skilled job opportunities in the state and give its citizens affordable, safe and reliable rides," he said in the statement.
