Andhra Pradesh govt takes Digital India to every doorstep, offers affordable internet
The Government of Andhra Pradesh will offer cost-effective broadband internet to households and businesses. With the growing technological development in India, especially in the internet sector, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu launched his AP FiberNet program in Vishakhapatnam on Thursday.
This comes soon after Indian Railways announced high-speed WiFi availability at all major stations this year, reports Storypick. Under this project, APSFL will provide users with high-speed internet connections. The Chief Minister offered a peek into the rates by mentioning that a 15 MBPS connection could cost up to as less as Rs 149 per month for household connections and a 100 MBPS connection would cost Rs 999 per month for business connections.
The state government is looking to target 1.3 crore households by July 2016. The National Optic Fiber Network implemented by the Centre has taken up the Andhra Pradesh Fiber Grid Project as a first of its kind trial to gauge the market and consumption of internet. The state government has tied up with IT company Cisco for this project.
The project is expected to cost Rs 333 crores and is expected to roll out in a gradual manner. With the number of internet users in India touted to hit the 371 million mark in June 2016, according to a survey by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI), this project might make a headway into the long-awaited high-speed internet facility in the country.
