Motherhood is a blessing! I have always found that line to be a bit of a stretch. However, despite the nine months of discomfort, mothers do swear that motherhood is the best thing that has happen to them.

Balancing careers and motherhood, these women, who have crazy work schedules and are under constant media scrutiny, show how motherhood can be cool, stylish and fun.

Celebrity-Mothers

Sussanne Khan

Sussanne Khan, entrepreneur and single mom, is a model to follow when it comes to her children. She is an interior designer and is part of The Label Life. Both her parents were in the movie business, including her former in-laws and her ex-husband and actor Hrithik Roshan. Her brother too is an actor.

Amidst much speculation about her divorce she has displayed amazing poise and grace. Despite constant media scrutiny, she has not once lost her temper or hidden from the speculation and the buzz. She has been focussed on her kids and been open about her choices. A doting mom to her sons, Hrehaan and Hridhaan, she doesn’t tire of talking about them.

Having grown up seeing all the attention that comes with stardom, Sussanne has managed to tackle it and has still managed to keep a low profile. As a fiercely protective mother, she does not shy away from giving a piece of her mind when it comes to the welfare of her sons.

She recently took on a media house on Twitter. Here is what she wrote:

A single mother, she is also an inspiration for other mothers who want to live their lives on their own terms.

With the speculation on her marriage not ending, she has been very vocal about her stand and how her children are the focus of her universe.

Twinkle Khanna

Twinkle Khanna is an entrepreneur, author, newspaper columnist, interior designer, film producer, and former film actress. She co-founded production company Grazing Goat pictures, and has co-produced six features. She is the co-owner of The White Window, a chain of interior designing stores, which operates in Mumbai.

Both her parents were very popular movie actors and so is her husband.

Post her career in movies, we have seen a different side to her that is sassy, humorous and very cool. With a massive fan following on Twitter, where she goes by @mrsfunnybones Twinkle has a take on everything, from children, movies to even the Kohinoor Diamond.

Pretty hands-on as a mother, she enjoys friendly banter with her children and takes her role as a mom seriously but always with the touch of humour that is so characteristic of her.

Sushmita Sen

Sushmita Sen went beyond the pretty speeches spouted at beauty pageants and actually adopted not one but two girls. This actress, fitness freak and a former Miss Universe has walked down the ramp with her daughter on several occasions. Never the one to hide them or shy away, Sushmita has always been open about her love for her children.

She has spoken up for women and women issues too and always led by example. She is one of the few women in India who has shown the impact celebrities can make by taking up adoption.

Applauded not only for being so devoted to her daughters, but also for being a role model to them as an outspoken woman, she is the perfect example of always following one’s heart and not playing by the rules.

Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta, now Lara Dutta Bhupati, is a model, actress, and was also crowned Miss Intercontinental 1997 and Miss Universe 2000. She made her debut in Bollywood in 2003 and is married to the ace Tennis star Mahesh Bhupati.

Lara Dutta not only supports her husband and his sports career but also is absolutely hands-on when it comes to her daughter, Saira.

And she is protective too when it comes to her daughter and always speaks her mind.

Saira is the word for this mom who is still actively involved with her career in the world of modelling and movies. But Saira tops her priority list.

Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty, actress, producer and former model, is married to British businessman Raj Kundra. She is the co-owner of the Indian Premier League cricket team Rajasthan Royals. Her son, Viaan, was born in 2012. A trained Bharatnatyam dancer and a yoga and fitness freak, Shilpa’s priority is Viaan’s health. She ensures that he is always eating healthy.

Balancing work and life is difficult but Shilpa cherishes the little joys of motherhood.

This doting mum is happy to share all that her adorable son is doing and is always ready to capture a wonderful moment about her son.

Aishwarya Rai

Actor Aishwarya Rai, who happens to be married into one of the most illustrious families in Bollywood, took a hiatus after her daughter was born. Though her post-partum weight made much news, this new mom did not let it get to her.

While she was busy playing mommy to her daughter, she got back to the world of acting and is in top shape. As a mother she did not initially give media access to her daughter, Aaradhaya, and has been very protective of her. Now, Aaradhya is often seen at different events and outings with her mum.

She has even taken her daughter to shoots when she has been unwell so she can spend as much time with her as possible. That’s work-life balance for you!

So here’s to these celebrity moms for embracing motherhood with such aplomb. Wishing them all a happy Mother’s Day!
