95-year-old Jal Devi files nomination papers for an assembly seat in Agra
Jal Devi, a 95-year-old woman from Agra has filed her nomination papers for the Kheragarh seat in Agra district for the upcoming assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Probably the oldest candidate ever to file nomination papers, Jal Devi is among the 166 candidates in the fray for the nine assembly seats in the district. The polls commence on 11 February.
A veteran member of the zilla panchayat, Jal Devi filed her nomination papers at the collectorate recently, escorted in a wheel chair by her son Ramnath Sikarwar and her lawyer. Interestingly, her son Ramnath Sikarwar also filed his nomination as an independent candidate at the collectorate. Here is the video:
Jal Devi says she is determined to fight corruption in the constituency while working for its development. She holds the record for winning the previous panchayat elections by 13,000 votes from Jagner block in the district.
Polling for the assembly election will be conducted in seven phases between 11 February and 8 March.
