Amazon Prime was launched in India a year ago. Prime members are provided with unlimited free one-day and two-day delivery on over two million online products, free standard delivery without minimum purchase, exclusive deals on bestselling products, and instant access to the latest movies and TV shows. It is available at a special introductory price of Rs 499 a year.

In a press release, Amit Agarwal, SVP and Country Head, Amazon India, said,

“Prime is our flagship programme which brings to members the best of Amazon with unlimited free fast delivery, ad-free video streaming, exclusive selection and deals, and much more. We are humbled by the tremendous response to Prime since its launch less than a year ago. We are thrilled to bring Prime Day to India, curating a special experience for our members with 30 hours of exclusive shopping and new streaming content.”

Besides new offers on Amazon devices like Fire TV Stick and Kindle, customers can also avail cashback on Amazon Pay and offers worth Rs 1,100 from MakeMyTrip, BookMyShow, and Swiggy, the press release has stated.

Prime Day will start early on Amazon Prime Video with a stream-fest from July 5–10. Six latest Indian and international blockbusters will be launched over six days. The Prime Day line-up includes Star Trek—Beyond and Baahubali: The Lost Legends, among others.

All the way from the US

Amazon Prime Day is the Seattle-based e-commerce giant’s biggest sale in the US—what the local media calls ‘Christmas in July’. In fact, the hype is so huge that Amazon's share prices also go up during the time. There will be thousands of small businesses and entrepreneurs participating in Prime Day.

Amazon launched Prime Day Sale in 2015 to mark its 20th anniversary. The 2016 sale saw a 60 percent hike compared to 2015. Open only to Prime customers, the discounts and deals are available across categories. For Amazon, Prime has been a valuable strategy for customer acquisition and retention.

Between July 10 and 11, the sale will take place across 13 countries, foraying into China and Mexico along with India. The other countries are the UK, Spain, Mexico, Japan, Italy, Germany, France, Canada, Belgium, and Austria.
