Delhi Metro commuters can now make payments through a wrist watch
The Delhi Metro has collaborated with an Austrian company LAKS GmbH to launch a smart watch known as ‘Watch2Pay’. This smart watch has been introduced to enable a hassle-free commute for the Metro travellers. They will now be able to wear watches on their wrists with smart cards installed. With the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) allowing the use of these wrist watches, the travellers will now be able to make payments using them on the gate.
According to IANS, the statement issued by DMRC said,
These watches (called Watch2Pay) are available through an online e-commerce site. The new facility is expected to provide the commuters a more convenient and fast access to the Delhi Metro network. The commuter will simply have to touch the wrist watch to the screens of the AFC (Automatic Fare Collection) gates at the metro stations to get access.
The watch will first be configured with the SIM cards of Delhi Metro. Once the SIM card has been installed inside the watch, it can be removed and reinserted as per the users’ choice, like in the case when a user wishes to change the watch. The watch will be priced Rs. 6,000 onwards and is expected to make the travel more convenient and easier.
Recharge for this SIM-equipped watch can be done in the same manner as any usual metro smart-cover. It can be recharged over the counter or through the recharge card terminals. The recharge can be done using all the regular payment methods such as credit card, debit card, or net banking.
The same watch company had joined hands earlier in 2015 with Hyderabad Metro Rail to facilitate payment of fares.
