5 lakh jobs for youngsters with the help of an app to hone skills

5 lakh jobs for youngsters with the help of an app to hone skills

Friday June 02, 2017 , 2 min Read

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramiah recently launched an app called Kaushalkar, to help the unemployed youth in the state to get jobs. With the launch of Kaushalkar, which is both a website and an app, the government aims to facilitate around five lakh jobs in both private and public sector by 2018.

The program would aim at training school dropouts and youngsters from the less privileged background, and impart skill development training to them. People in the age group of 18 to 35 can apply for the skill training in the field of their choice. According to The News Minute, Ashraful Hasan, Director of DDET said,

There is no limit to the number or type of vocation provided on this platform. The applicants are free to put whichever skill they choose to be proficient in and we will try our best to help them. If there are too few of them for a particular skill, we will send them to other training camps and maybe even foot the bill if that is possible.

The platform is being provided by the newly established Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood (SDEL) department which is a part of Department of Employment and Training (DET). The portal also has a reservation for the disadvantaged section of the population that includes 33 percent for women and 3 percent for the physically challenged among the other reservations.

The government also plans to introduce skill development policy. According to The Times of India, Chief Minister said,

We will ensure that people get market-oriented skills, especially those required in the industrial and manufacturing sectors.

Brand ambassador for the program is actor Puneeth Rajkumar. Currently, the application is available for download on Android smartphones. Once the application process gets over, there will be telephonic interviews to confirm their credentials.

The next step would be to provide guidance to find the candidate's aptitude based on which the training would be given. It will be for a period of 6-12 months depending on the requirement. The training will be totally free of cost and the candidates would also get a monthly stipend of Rs 1,000.
