Glassdoor’s list of the top ten interviewers of 2017

Job interviews are terrifying. Anyone who’s told you that they haven’t walked into an interview with sweaty palms and Bambi legs, are just trying to put a brave front. But the truth is that the course and subsequent outcome of an interview depends on how both sides are treating it. While the maximum focus is essentially on the candidate being interviewed, there are certain things that are expected of the interviewer which will lead the interview into a satisfactory conclusion.

An interviewer is expected to initiate the conversation and spend the first few minutes of the interview ensuring that the candidate is comfortable and feels at ease with his or her surroundings. Following this, the former needs to extract all the important information out of the candidate, without them feeling like they are being grilled into submission. The interviewer also needs to ask questions which are placed well within the bounds of reasonability.

In most cases, candidates expect to hear back from a company post the interview, irrespective of whether they were successful in scoring the job or not. According to a survey, 82 per cent of workers expected to hear back from a company when they apply for a job regardless of whether the employer is interested. Out of this, 26 per cent said they had a bad experience as a job applicant, citing a lack of follow through, inconsistencies from the employer or poor representation of the company’s brand as the primary culprits.

Hence, the company’s brand value and ability to pull the best talents is also determined by the way it conducts its interviews. Remember that the interviewees have the unrestrained power of word of mouth, so be it a positive or negative experience it will be shared with the masses, something accentuated by social media platforms like Facebook or Twitter.

On this note, the popular polling site Glassdoor recently released their list of the top companies across the world which are the best to interview at. The list is based on the input of thousands of job candidates and employees within the Glassdoor database, who rated their individual interview experience. Here are the top 10.

Dignity Health

The San Francisco-based Dignity Health features top on Glassdoor’s list of companies that have the best interview processes. A not-for-profit public-benefit corporation, the company runs hospitals and ancillary care in three different states. According to the data accumulated by Glassdoor, the company rated 93 per cent positive feedback as per candidate’s interview experience, with the level of difficulty marking the interview rating 2.5 out of 5 and the entire interview process taking place within three weeks.

Horizon Media

A New York-based media services agency, the company provides communication planning and execution strategies across all pans of traditional media, digital media and social media. According to the list, the company acquired a 91 per cent positive rating in terms of interview experience, a 2.5 out of 5 for its difficult levels and it reportedly takes the company about 17 days to carry out the entire process.

Cadence Design System

An electronic design automation software and engineering services company, this San Jose-based enterprise features third in Glassdoor’s list of top interview companies and scores a 86 per cent positive rating in terms of experience. Taking a period of 21 days to carry out the interview proceedings, candidates have levelled its difficulty levels as 2.7 out of 5.

Salesforce

The popular San Francisco-based cloud-computing company is apparently another professional hotspot, where the management is determined to offer a memorable interview experience for all those wishing to join their team. As per the data collected, the company procured an 85 per cent in terms of positive rating based on the same, with the difficulty levels of the interview ruling in on 3.3 out of 5, an exciting challenge for most. Accordingly, management takes an average of about 33 days to conduct the entire interviewing process.

Crew

The famous New York-based retailer has reportedly brushed up on its interviewing skills, as it rates a 83 per cent in terms of positivity. With the interview levels being marked at 2 out of 5, the real deal-maker is the fact that the company only takes nine days to carry out the entire interview process.

SSM Health

The popular healthcare system that employs 1,600 physicians and 33,000 other employees across its branches in four states, rated a 83 per cent positive in terms of interview experience and a 2.6 out of 5 for difficulty. In terms of post-interview response rate, it takes about 13 days to work through the procedure.

General Mills

A multi-national manufacturer and marketer of branded consumer foods, General Mills has its branches across the world, with several gaining popularity within India as well. The interview process rated positive at 82 per cent, and most workers quoted a 2.6 out of 5 in terms of its difficulty levels. The entire episode is wrapped up within 22 days.

LUSH North America

The famous cosmetics retailer headquartered at Dorset, UK features within the top ten companies that conduct the best interview processes. Marking in on 81 per cent positive experience in terms of its interviews, most candidates have reported its difficulty levels at a 2.5 rating out of 5. This too, wraps up the process at a fairly fast pace- within 13 working days.

JetBlue

The universally-acclaimed airlines corporation raked in an 81 per cent positive experience in terms of their interview processes, and a 2.8 out of 5 for how difficult they usually stand to be. However, the interview process does take up to 46 days, a fact they should be looking to improve upon.

QuikTrip

An Oklahoma-based chain of convenience stores, QuikTrip is spread across 758 locations. According to the data accumulated by Glassdoor, most candidates who have been called in for an interview at the company’s branches, have reported an 80 per cent positive experience for the same. They have added that while the level of difficulty pertaining the interview can be ranked at a 2.3 out of 5, the entire procedure takes only 10 days to produce a conclusive outcome.
