Learn to say no to these 4 things to be prosperous on your own terms

Learn to say no to these 4 things to be prosperous on your own terms

Thursday October 12, 2017 , 3 min Read

Do you often take on responsibilities you cannot fulfill? Do you refuse to say no even when it is needed because you believe that it will help you get ahead in life? Sadly, you couldn't be more mistaken. Successful people don't say yes to everything asked of them at work. They are aware of their strengths and limitations, and don't bury themselves in unnecessary work. Of course, if you say no to every opportunity that comes your way, you'll not only be called lazy, but you'll never get ahead in life. A successful person should be able to differentiate between the things he should take on and the things he should let go off.

Learn to say no to these four things if you want to propel your business in the direction of success:

Say no to other people's responsibilities

If you want to run a successful business, you need to focus on your own workload instead of somebody else's. There will always be people who will push their tasks and projects on your lap just because you're the owner of your business. It doesn't mean you have to do everything. For example, if you've hired people to do your accounts and administrative work, it is their duty to complete the work instead of dumping their workload on you.

Say no to sacrificing leisure time

Every business owner needs to take a break from his daily tasks to clear his head. There will always be work that needs to be completed. However, you need to know when it is time to stop what you're doing and spend some time with the people you love most. When you take consistent breaks, you not only give yourself the chance to think more clearly, but you also return to the tasks at hand with a new zeal.

Say no to staying trapped in your comfort zone

Your comfort zone is a place where all your dreams die a slow and agonizing death, and therefore you need to move out of it every once in a while. If you want to make something of your business, you need to be willing to take calculated risks. If you continue to do what you've always been doing, you'll continue to receive what you've always been receiving.

Say no to turning into someone you're not

If your work is pushing you to become someone you're not comfortable becoming, you need to do some thinking in the here and now. Nothing is worth sacrificing yourself for. There will always be many paths that lead you to success, but find out the best one for you. If your integrity and principles are on the line for some deal, you need to forgo the deal instead of sacrificing the things you believe in.

You are unique and therefore should achieve your success in your own unique way. Start saying no to the above-mentioned four things to avoid sacrificing yourself in your quest for success.
