She ran a food stall to support her family, now owns a restaurant in Gurgaon
Last year, Gurgaon resident Urvashi Yadav, who happens to own an SUV and a house worth Rs 3 crore, opened a roadside chhole-kulche stall. While there was no shortage of naysayers, her efforts have paid off to the extent that she now runs a restaurant.
After her husband had an accident, Urvashi, worried about her family’s future, decided to shoulder their financial burden.
A nursery school teacher by profession, she gave it up in favour of the chhole-kulche stall, which would help her save more.
Urvashi says that though they were not facing any financial difficulties at the time, she decided to open the stall to ensure there were no problems in future as well. As she loves cooking, investing in her passion seemed the logical choice.
Urvashi’s husband Amit Yadav worked as an executive officer with a leading manufacturing company and her father-in-law is a wing commander in the Indian Air Force. Amit fell down near Sector 17 A, Gurgaon, on May 31, 2016. The sudden expenses due to the hip replacement surgeries and a halt to the monthly income pushed her to make this bold decision. Also, her children were used to a certain lifestyle, and she did not want them to have to experience any sudden changes in that regard.
The day after the accident, Urvashi set up her stall next to a lake, earning Rs 2,500–3,000 every day.
However, it was not an easy decision for Urvashi as she had to face strong opposition from her in-laws and kids who felt that a roadside stall was beneath her. However, firm in her belief, she went ahead.
Her perseverance has been well rewarded. Urvashi got a licence for her first food truck and has now expanded further and opened her own restaurant called Urvashi's Food Joint in Gurgaon.
Urvashi has added several items apart from her widely popular chhole-kulche to the menu. Her unwavering spirit is truly an inspiration for millions.
