As holidays approach, Flipkart to give huge discounts with ‘Big Shopping Days’
Following a successful festive season sale over September-October, e-commerce leader Flipkart is throwing its next big festival – Big Shopping Days – from 7th to 9th December. The company, which claims to have the highest market share in mobile phones and electronics, will also launch Redmi’s latest model – Redmi 5a – at 12 noon on December 7.
Flipkart had claimed that it doubled its Gross Merchandise Value (GMV) during its annual flagship event – five-day Big Billion Days (BBD) sale in September – this year compared to the same sale last year. According to industry analysts, Flipkart Group had sales of over Rs 3,000 crore or around $460 million. So double that number would be a little under $1 billion. It also claimed to have over 70 percent market share in fashion, mobile phones and appliances – the top three categories for Flipkart and also for the online retail industry in the country.
At the Big Shopping Days sale too, there are huge discounts – up to 60 percent in electronics and accessories, 80 percent in fashion, 70 percent in electric appliances, 80 percent in home and furniture, as well as up to 50 percent off on certain electronic accessories, laptops, etc., for the first time. In addition, there will be buy back guarantee and no-cost EMI offers as usual.
The Bangalore-based company started this shopping extravaganza in 2015. This time, it is targeting customers who are looking to shop before the Christmas holidays. It has actively promoted ‘the biggest ever iPhone X sale’ during the time, and the price reveal for Mi A1 today.
Flipkart Smartbuy products are also on sale, but the spokesperson has said that there are no special promotions for the private label.
According to a study by RedSeer Consulting, Flipkart has emerged as the leader in the festive season sales with a market share of 58 percent versus Amazon’s 26 percent. Flipkart’s market share includes Myntra’s and Jabong’s sales numbers. But neither of the two fashion portals are participating in the Big Shopping Days sale.
