Impressed with Mangalore food truck business, Anand Mahindra offers investment
Philanthropy, investing, and kindness have been a conscious practice for the Mahindra group, with Anand Mahindra, Chairman and CEO, lately contributing immense amounts of money towards encouraging new ventures. One such instance is when he offered to make an investment in a food truck business in Mangalore run by a 34-year-old Shilpa.
A single mother and the owner of a Mahindra Bolero, Shilpa modified the vehicle and customised it according to the needs of a food truck. A popular name in the locality when it comes to North Karnataka delicacies, Shilpa took a loan and bought the vehicle in 2015, and immediately started the truck business along with her brother.
Speaking with The News Minute, Shilpa said,
"It was my circumstances, not a decision to become an entrepreneur, that led to the starting of this business. The local residents supported my initiative, and it just clicked."
Anand Mahindra took it to Twitter to express his interest in the investment. Lauding her for being a successful entrepreneur, he also stated he was just offering to invest in the expansion, and Shilpa was not someone who would want or need charity from him. He said,
"A terrific story of entrepreneurship to end the week with. At Mahindra,we call this a Rise story. Am so delighted the Bolero played a small role. Can someone reach her & tell her I will personally invest in her expansion by supplying a Bolero for the second outlet she’s planning? I don’t think she wants or needs my charity. She is a successful entrepreneur. I am offering to invest in her expansion."
