The India-wide Techathon: calling everyone who can power a better tomorrow

Friday April 13, 2018 , 3 min Read

Are you enthusiastic about improving the world? Are you a champion of change? Do you have an idea that can go the distance? Then, Techathon sparked by GIZ, YourStory and 91springboard is your chance to hack for a better tomorrow.

It doesn't matter whether you are a hacker, engineer, designer, business development enthusiast or just someone who wants to solve some of the world's most pressing social challenges. Everyone is welcome to apply!

5 hackathons across 5 cities

The hackathon will kick start with four regional knockout hackathons across four of India’s tech and startup-rich cities namely Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Goa and Delhi, and end with the grand finale hackathon in Mumbai.

Registrations now open for Bengaluru and Hyderabad

The hackathon details for Bengaluru and Hyderabad are below. Know more about the themes and problem statements here. Note: The hackathons in Bengaluru and Hyderabad share a common theme.

Apply with an idea or a skillset

You can apply either with an idea or without. Anyone with a unique skillset and a keen interest may apply for one of the four hackathons. Each hackathon will last for three days (beginning at 4PM first day and ending at 6PM on the last day), and has been designed to address a different social challenge pertaining to a particular sector. Have a look at the themes and apply for the hackathon most suited to you!

The top three teams from each regional hackathon will be invited to the national hackathon in Mumbai to face off in the grand finale. The top three teams will be awarded on the last day of the national hackathon. There are exciting prizes in store for all winners, and goodie bags for all participants. The best teams will also have the chance to work further with our corporate partners and get valuable mentoring and guidance.

How the Hackathon works:

You may apply for the hackathon as a team or an individual, outlining your idea or the skillset you bring to the table. The first round of idea presentations and people introductions will happen on the first day. While team sizes are restricted to four people per team, teams have the option of selecting from individual participants to make up their numbers. Individuals may form their own teams or join other teams. The ideas and people selected for each regional event will be decided by a set of experts comprising of GIZ, Bosch, YourStory & 91springboard staff as well as industry experts.

Your key questions answered:

How many people & teams will be there at each hackathon?

We will allow a maximum of 50 people forming a maximum of 15 teams.

Will there be someone to mentor me?

There will be at least 4 mentors at each hackathon with a different skillset helping you to build your solution. These mentors will come from corporates, successful start-ups, etc.

May I bring my own gadgets to the hackathon?

Yes of course. You may bring whatever you need and share it with the other participants too. Also, don’t forget to bring your own laptops.

How will the hackathon play out?

The hackathons will start on Fridays at 4PM with the registration. The first two hours will be dedicated to idea pitching and team building, followed by a demo of the gadgets/tech available. As the teams hack over the next two days, there will also be exciting workshops that will help them realise their ideas and eventually create their own start-up.
