Ola rolls out Chalo Befikar, its in-trip insurance programme for customers
In what looks like a huge leap in amplifying user experiences, cab aggregator Ola has launched a comprehensive in-trip insurance programme for its customers, which extends up to Rs 5 lakhs.
Naming the programme 'Chalo Befikar', the company claims that it is first of its kind in the country, after they joined hands with Acko General Insurance Ltd, to roll it out in more than 110 cities in India. As part of this, Ola commuters can opt for an in-trip insurance cover at a premium of Re 1 per ride for intra-city travel, Rs 10 for Ola Rentals and Rs 15 for Ola Outstation.
The programme extends across all categories of commute like cabs, autos, kaali-peeli, and e-rickshaws. It is now being rolled out for customers in major metro cities and it will be scaled up to all cities, covering the entire base in the coming few weeks.
The insurance programme, which can be purchased directly on the Ola app, provides benefits in cases like loss of baggage or laptops, missed flights, accidental medical expense and ambulance transportation cover. Acko General Insurance is also featuring this option on its website. Besides this, Ola’s partnership with ICICI Lombard General Insurance Ltd will also be live in the coming months.
Vishal Kaul, Chief Operating Officer at Ola, said in a press statement,

Just for Re 1, Ola customers can avail an insurance policy of Rs 5 lakh, which will also provide cover for missed flights, loss of baggage, loss of laptop, emergency hotel requirements, and many more. The launch of this initiative, a first of its kind in India, reiterates our resolve of building customer-first solutions."
With the programme already in place for the company's driver partners, the COO believes that extending these benefits to customers as well is the right step forward, so as to bring the entire ecosystem under this insurance programme.
