Priyanka Chopra turns investor with Bumble and Holberton School

Priyanka Chopra, India's real crossover star, is now vying for a small pie of the startup ecosystem. The actor on Wednesday announced that she has begun a new chapter in her life as a tech investor and will be investing in education company Holberton School and in dating and social media app Bumble.

In a tweet, she said:

A new chapter for me! I am so excited to partner with @bumble and @holbertonschool as an investor. I’m honored to join two companies that strive to expand gender diversity in the tech space, and make a social impact for the greater good... let’s do this!!

In an interview with New York Times, Priyanka said her investments in technology would skew heavily towards companies with an element of social impact, and companies founded with women.

The Holbertoonschool tweeted:

"In one of her first acts as a start-up investor, the actor @priyankachopra recently toured the San Francisco home of her new portfolio company, a coding education company called @holbertonschool ." Welcome to the @HolbertonSchool family, Priyanka!

The actress' investment in Holberton is part of an $8.2 million round of funding for Holberton that closed in April. She will also join the company's board of advisers. Holberton School is a project-based alternative to college for software engineers.

Meanhwhile, dating app Bumble is all set to launch in India with Priyanka Chopra as one of its advisers. In a statement released by Bumble, the actor said, “Women want love, they want friendship and they want to find a career, and that’s the uniqueness of what Bumble delivers — a digital community that encompasses all that, while empowering women to take charge of their lives,” says Priyanka.

The startup world has seen investments by many Indian celebrities like Salman Khan, Karisma Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Shilpa Shetty, Shekhar Kapur, and Hrithik Roshan, among others.

"You just hang out and you’re learning. It’s amazing. Geeks are taking over the world. If they haven’t already," she told the New York Times.
