Lanasol’s patented solar tech helps industry save cost and the planet

In an interaction with YourStory, Lanasol’s Founder Bharath Srivathsa talks about how they are redefining renewable energy.

India is today the third-most polluted country in the world. The e-waste generated is increasing by the day, and we all know what the condition of our air quality is at the moment.

Lanasol Energy Solutions Private Limited, a solar thermal-based company founded in 2014 by Bharath Srivathsa, is offering a low-cost, alternative solar solution for industries that are burning fossil fuel for their thermal needs.

Lanasol has created a patented technology for concentrated solar energy generation through their proprietary, Parabolic Trough Collector (PTC). By concentrating the sun rays in the PTC, higher temperatures can be achieved. Tested and piloted in Bengaluru, this solution is a zero-waste and low-cost solution for industries.

“Fifty-seven percent of India’s thermal need is consumed by the industry itself. Take industries like paper, textile, pharma, and sugar. They are burning fuel to produce steam,” says Bharath.

Giving the example of a dairy farm where they have installed six collectors, Sharath says that each centre of the farm uses 250 kg of firewood per day.

Though the technology is not new, it had to be earlier imported from China or Germany. Says Sharath,

“Being a Make in India solution, we have brought down the cost by 60 percent and can also provide easy maintenance. Moreover, it is approved by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE). Corporates and industry can get 30 percent off as a result.”
