Eternal shuts down Zomato Quick, Everyday offerings amid slow demand

Quick commerce and food delivery firm Eternal said it is shutting down its Zomato Quick and Everyday initiatives.

“We are shutting down both these initiatives as we are not seeing the path to profitability in these without compromising on customer experience,” said Co-founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal in a letter to shareholders, while announcing the Q4 FY25 results.

Zomato Quick was rolled out four months ago to compete with the likes of Zepto Cafe, delivering fast foods and instant meals within 15 minutes.

“The current restaurant density and kitchen infrastructure is not set up for delivering orders in 10 minutes, which leads to inconsistent customer experience. As a result, we did not see any incrementality in demand while we ran Quick as an experiment for a few months,” he added.

With Everyday, which offered home-style meals prepared by home chefs, Eternal realised that the need for homely meals is a limited use case, with its users largely concentrated in office locations in metros. The company did not see enough ROI by keeping it running at a small scale, the CEO explained.

Further, discussing the recent slowdown in growth, Goyal said that the sluggish demand environment (especially on discretionary spending), temporary shortage of delivery partners due to the high demand of delivery partners in quick commerce given the rapid expansion of the industry in the last few months, and competition from quick delivery of packaged food from quick commerce leading to drop in demand for food delivery from restaurants.
