Cashfree launches agentic payments to complete purchases inside AI chat
The company said the solution allows merchants’ AI agents to “complete the full shopping experience within the conversation,” eliminating the need for customers to move across multiple web views or authentication steps.
Cashfree Payments unveiled “Agentic Payments” at the Global Fintech Fest 2025, a new product that embeds digital payments within a single chat interface.
The launch positions the company among the first Indian fintechs alongside Razorpay to introduce AI-native payments that enable businesses to manage discovery, recommendation, and checkout without leaving the AI conversation.
The company said the solution allows merchants’ AI agents to “complete the full shopping experience within the conversation,” eliminating the need for customers to move across multiple web views or authentication steps. The system integrates with merchants’ multi-channel platforms and uses technologies such as UPI Reserve Pay, card tokenisation, and biometric authentication.
“At Cashfree, we are pioneering for the next decade of commerce, where AI not only guides conversations but drives transactions end-to-end, and building Agentic Payments is a forward step for us in that direction,” said Reeju Datta, Co-founder of Cashfree Payments. “With this, merchants can bring discovery, recommendations, and payments under one roof, without disrupting the flow of conversation. This is more than a technological advancement; it is a new way for businesses to connect with customers and unlock growth.”
Datta added that as AI becomes the interface for decision-making, Cashfree aims to provide “the trust, security, and intelligence that make this transformation possible.”
The company cited industry data showing that 60%–70% of online purchases in India fail to convert due to friction at checkout—a problem it says is exacerbated in chat-based commerce.
The new system, powered by Cashfree’s in-house large language model trained on transaction data and payment processing patterns, aims to reduce drop-offs and improve conversion rates by up to three times.
Cashfree launched Agentic Payments alongside 17 other offerings at the event, including “Banking Connect,” an interoperable netbanking solution by NBBL, and “Reserve Pay,” a Single Block Multi Debit UPI product.
Founded in 2015, Cashfree Payments handles transactions worth $80 billion annually across more than 800,000 businesses. It supports over 100 payment methods and processes up to 12,000 transactions per second. The company is authorised by the RBI as a payment aggregator and is backed by investors, including Y Combinator, Apis Partners, State Bank of India, and KRAFTON.
