Lenskart to launch smartglasses with built-in UPI payment feature
Lenskart's B Camera Smartglasses will combine AI-based camera features with digital payment capabilities. The smartglasses, expected to launch in the coming months, will link directly to users’ bank accounts and enable authentication via voice commands.
Omnichannel eyewear retailer Lenskart on Thursday said it plans to integrate Unified Payments Interface (UPI) functionality into its upcoming B Camera Smartglasses, unveiled at the Global Fintech Festival (GFF) 2025.
Lenskart said the B Camera Smartglasses will combine AI-based camera features with digital payment capabilities. The smartglasses, expected to launch in the coming months, will link directly to users’ bank accounts and enable authentication via voice commands.
The device was developed in partnership with NPCI’s UPI Circle, as the integration securely connects the glasses to the user's bank account. This allows the entire process to be completed solely through voice commands, removing the need to pull out a phone or manually enter a PIN during a purchase.
“The role and use of smart glasses in our lives will continue to evolve, and payments are an important part of our daily activity,” said Peyush Bansal, Chairman, CEO and Co-founder of Lenskart.
Earlier this week, Lenskart secured SEBI approval for an IPO, including a fresh issuance of Rs 2,150 crore and an offer for sale of over 132 million shares by existing shareholders.
The announcement came alongside several key developments at GFF 2025. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman launched a foreign currency settlement system for GIFT City’s International Financial Services Centre, enabling near real-time settlement of cross-border transactions that currently take up to 48 hours.
SEBI Chairperson Tuhin Kanta Pandey also highlighted the regulator’s growing use of technology and collaboration to enhance market resilience and inclusivity, noting that India’s capital markets have undergone a significant digital transformation over the past decade.
