Gaon Connection turns profitable in FY25, reports sharp revenue growth
For the year ending March 31, 2025, the company recorded revenue of Rs 5.33 crore—up from Rs 1.19 crore the previous year — and reported a net margin of nearly 20%. The company had posted a loss of Rs 1.01 crore in FY 2023–24.
Gaon Connection Private Limited, a rural content and insights company, said it turned profitable in FY2024–25 and posted a substantial rise in revenue.
For the year ending March 31, 2025, the company recorded revenue of Rs 5.33 crore — up from Rs 1.19 crore the previous year — and reported a net margin of nearly 20%. The company had posted a loss of Rs 1.01 crore in FY 2023–24.
Gaon Connection said the improvement was driven by tighter operational discipline, increased partnerships, and growing interest in rural-focused storytelling and research.
“Every seventh human in the world lives in rural India, and Gaon Connection seeks to become a credible ambassador of that universe,” said Neelesh Misra, Founder and CEO. “FY2025 was a year of transformation and proof of concept — can profit and purpose co-exist? We believe they can.”
Neelesh Misra is a storyteller, lyricist, author, and entrepreneur whose work has touched more than 150 million people across radio, YouTube, TV and audio and video streaming platforms.
Misra added that the company’s recent performance has helped establish “a lean, scalable model” that sets the stage for deeper expansion across small-town and rural markets.
Over the last year, the company consolidated several of Misra’s creative properties under the Gaon Connection umbrella, including his long-running Slow brand. The Slow Interview, his widely followed conversational series, is now part of a portfolio that includes Slow Bazaar (handcrafted goods), Slow Music, and Slow Imprint, the publishing vertical launched with Westland.
The year also saw the launch of “Gaon Se,” a rural storytelling programme that aired on DD National and travelled to more than 400 locations across the country. A second season has been commissioned. Gaon Connection additionally published five books, two of which appeared on bestseller lists, and expanded output under its music label.
The company is now moving into fiction video content, with projects under development across microdramas, web series, short films and feature films.
“We want to take both our nonfiction and fiction content to wider audiences — through our own platforms as well as OTTs,” Misra said, noting that the company plans to lean more heavily on rural insights and data to shape new IPs.
Under its 2025–2028 roadmap, Gaon Connection aims to expand its cinema vertical, Slow Motion Pictures, grow its branded content slate, and further formalise support mechanisms for rural creators — including training, market linkages through Slow Bazaar, and access to distribution networks.
“With profitability now established, the company is better positioned to raise growth capital and deepen its work in the heartland,” Misra said. “But credibility remains our most valuable asset, and profit cannot come at its cost.”
