Uber expands teens and family features to now let teens link accounts
The company is also extending its Uber One membership benefits to teens if a guardian has an active Uber One membership.
Uber India has expanded its Teens and Family features to now allow teenagers to sign themselves up on the app by linking their accounts directly, as the firm looks to strengthen its Indian customer base in the competitive ride-hailing segment.
The company has also extended the Uber One membership—the ride-hailing firm’s paid loyalty programme that provides benefits such as savings and exclusive offers. If a teen’s guardian has an active Uber One membership, they get access to the same perks, which include cashbacks that will accrue in the family member’s hub.
Uber for Teens, which was launched in April this year across 37 Indian cities, looks to tap into an emerging consumer segment. It allows families with teens aged 13–17 who require a parent or guardian to create a family profile and invite the teen to their account.
“We understand that every family is different, and the needs within a household can vary widely. Teens today are far more independent, and we wanted to give them the flexibility to manage their own Uber accounts in a safe and supervised way, with approval from their guardians. At the same time, we are making it easier for families to stay connected on the platform and ensure that everyone, from teens to seniors, can travel comfortably and confidently,” said Shiva Shailendran, Director, Consumer Growth, Uber India and South Asia.
The US-based ride-hailing giant, which began operations in India in 2013, has announced a series of rider-focused features in India, which include a price lock feature, Uber for Seniors, and premium services, including airport priority access.
Moreover, the company has also doubled down on its logistics services and launched Courier XL this year, through which users can send large parcels of up to 750 kgs, and Uber Pet, which provides pet-friendly transport options.
