AmpereHour builds the battery systems that let a grid store what its solar farms generate
The Pune-based company assembles modular storage systems and writes the software that runs them for utilities and industrial customers
A solar farm produces its power in the middle of the day and nothing after dark, while demand peaks in the evening. For years, India built the farms and lived with the mismatch. That has now changed: the Ministry of Power now requires solar tenders to include co-located storage equal to a tenth of the installed capacity, for at least two hours.
A grid battery is not just cells. It has racks of modules, power conversion equipment, thermal management, safety systems and, above all, software that decides when to charge and discharge, balances the packs, and keeps the whole installation within its limits for twenty years.
builds such systems. Founded in 2017 by four IIT Bombay alumni, Ayush Misra, Rahul Shelke, Harshal Thakur and Neehar Jathar, the Pune company describes itself as a full-stack provider, covering the hardware, the software and the engineering work to install it.
It has been at it longer than most. Nine years is a long time in Indian storage, where the market barely existed when the company started and where much of the current activity dates from the past two or three years.
Modules, and the software above them
The hardware is modular. The company's building block, which it calls AH-Stack, is designed to be combined into installations of different sizes, which lets the same product serve a factory needing backup power and a utility needing grid-scale storage.
The software is where it locates its difference. ELINA, its energy management platform, controls how the batteries behave: optimising performance, integrating renewable generation, providing backup, and supporting grid stability. In storage, the economics turn less on the cells than on how intelligently they are used.
It also does the installation work itself, providing engineering, procurement and construction services rather than selling equipment and leaving integration to somebody else. For customers buying storage for the first time, that removes the hardest part of the purchase.
The deployment figures are substantial for a company of this size. It reports more than 40 MWh commissioned and around 1,000 MWh under execution across some 50 sites. The distinction matters: commissioned means running, under execution means contracted and being built.
Five million dollars, and a customer list
AmpereHour Energy raised $5 million in a Series A announced in March 2025, led by Avaana Capital with UC Impower and existing angel investors. It had previously raised about $2.45 million, and databases put total funding at around $7.45 million across five rounds.
Its customer list is the strongest part of the record. It names IndiGrid, the listed infrastructure trust, along with Cummins, Siemens, Coca-Cola, Amazon and BRPL, the Delhi distribution utility, and a customer in the UAE. For an Indian storage company, that mix of industrial multinationals and grid operators is unusual.
Its investor at UC Impower has described the company as a market leader in battery storage, citing the team and its technical capabilities. That is an interested party's assessment, made at the point of investing.
The Series A is now eighteen months old, and no subsequent round has been announced since. The gap between 40 MWh commissioned and 1,000 MWh under execution is the part of the business still to be delivered. In storage, contracted capacity converts to revenue only as projects are built, and large grid installations take years.
