BMW Motarrad brings limited edition R18, R NineT to India
BMW Motorrad has launched these special edition motorcycles under the Heritage experience as part of the brand’s 100 Years celebration.
BMW may be renowned as a luxury carmaker across the world, but the German brand has an equally impressive reputation in the global two-wheeler market. BMW Motorrad, the company’s two-wheeler division, is celebrating its 100th anniversary since its inception in 1923.
To commemorate this special occasion, the bikemaker has launched special edition models of R18 and R NineT in India. While the former is priced at Rs 25.9 lakh, the latter is pegged at Rs 24 lakh (both prices ex-showroom). Both motorcycles can be booked at BMW Motorrad India dealerships.
In keeping with the brand’s inception year, both models are limited to 1,923 units each. The bikes receive the same specs and features but flaunt many cosmetic changes to distinguish themselves from their respective standard models.
Styling of the 100 Years Edition
While the bodywork of the 100 Years edition remains the same as other variants, it is wrapped in BMW’s Classic Chrome paint scheme. The tank is a combination of black with chrome and white double-ling, complemented by knee pads and an exclusive 100 Years badge.
Chrome treatment is further added to components such as handlebar clamps, mirrors, headlamp casing, exhaust bend pipes and canisters on R18, and seat cowl offered in the R NineT. Another eyepiece is a single-piece Oxblood red seat with a quilted pattern available in both the cruiser and roadster.
Gloss black finishes on front forks, switchgear, and side panels offered in the 719 Shadow and Shadow II optional billet packages create an exciting contrast to the overall chrome treatment. The R18 cruiser benefits from a propeller-style, chrome-plated Akrapovic rear exhaust muffler with integrated BMW Motorrad logo.
High-quality and durable galvanic surface coating can be found on the handlebar fittings, gearshift and foot brake levers, handlebar clamps, handlebar weights, mirrors, brake master cylinders, brake callipers, engine casing covers, cylinder head covers, and intake manifold trims.
Features on offer
Equipment in both limited edition models of R18 and R NineT includes contemporary features like LED illumination, reversing aid, electronic cruise control, and heated grips. An optional Comfort package adds more amenities such as adaptive headlights to the equipment.
Safety is handled by features like hill-start assist, switchable automatic stability control, and engine drag torque control. There are three ride modes to choose from in R18– Rain, Rock, and Roll while R NineT gets two modes– Rain and Road. An optional Dynamic mode is available with the Comfort package.
Powertrain specs
Powering the R NineT is a 1,170 cc, air/oil-cooled, twin-cylinder, four-stroke boxer engine that cranks out 109 hp at 7,250 rpm and a peak torque of 116 Nm at 6,000 rpm. Power is sent to the rear wheel via a claw-shifted six-speed gearbox. The bike can clock a maximum speed of over 200 kmph.
In case of R18, the cruiser is propelled by a 1802cc air/oil-cooled, twin-cylinder four-stroke boxer engine churning out 91 hp at 4750 rpm and a peak torque of 158 Nm at 3,000 rpm. It is the largest twin-cylinder motor powering a two-wheeler in series production. R18 can reach speeds of up to 180 kmph.
