McLaren is the latest luxury brand to set foot in India
The McLaren range in India will consist of models like 720S Coupe, 720S Spyder, 765 LT, McLaren GT, and the high-performance Artura hybrid supercar.
India’s luxury car segment has seen significant growth with new brands entering the market over the past few years. Joining this bandwagon is British luxury supercar brand McLaren Automotive.
According to industry estimates, around 17,000 luxury vehicles were sold in India between January and June 2022, a 55% increase from 11,000 units sold during the same period last year.
McLaren has announced its entry into the Indian car market later in October this year. With this expansion, India has become the 41st country where McLaren has established its operations.
McLaren in India
The British marque has appointed Infinity Cars as its official dealer partner in the country, with its first retail outlet slated to open up in Mumbai. An event commemorating the opening of this showroom is scheduled for the second half of 2022. The company will offer complete support including sales, aftersales, and servicing for the entire range of McLaren models.
On the occasion of this development, Paul Harris, Managing Director – APAC and China, McLaren Automotive said, “We welcome Lalit Choudary of McLaren Mumbai to the expanding retailer network here in the Asia Pacific region. India remains an important market where our fans and select clientele can enjoy the best of McLaren in Mumbai.”
Lineup for India
McLaren plans to add all its supercars– including 720S and 765LT (both available in Coupe and Spyder trims) to the India lineup. The sports car brand is looking to add the McLaren GT and the Artura performance hybrid to the range as well.
All models from McLaren will be brought to India as fully imported models via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route. Hence, McLaren models in India are expected to create a huge hole in the pockets of prospective buyers, thanks to their exorbitant price tags.
McLaren cars are designed and developed at the McLaren Technology Centre and manufactured at its adjoining production facility in Woking, Surrey, south of London. The technology centre also serves as the headquarter for the McLaren Formula 1 team, the second most successful team in Formula 1’s history.
The upcoming retail outlet is set to offer an immersive McLaren brand experience with a direct window into Woking where the cars are designed and manufactured. McLaren has pioneered the field of motorsports for the last six decades by producing hand-crafted supercars and hypercars.
