Headquartered in New York, betaworks is building products that when combined together form a strong network, and eventually a media company for this century. They make seed and early-stage investments in great people and companies at the intersection of media and technology. They look for companies that fit their thesis and will make their network stronger. Since 2008, they have built products from the ground up like Giphy, Dots, bitly, Chartbeat and Tweetdeck. In 2016, they ran their first Camp - thematic accelerators for start-ups. Camp allows them to focus and batch companies building in frontier technologies like Bots, AI, Verbal Computing and Augmented Reality. Their current focus is in conversational interfaces; in other words, bots, verbal computing and Augmented Reality. In the summer of 2016, they launched and raised money for Dexter, an elegant platform for building bots for brands and services. In 2017, Poncho the weather-bot was a winning app on Apple’s Planet of the Apps, securing over $2m in funding. They are currently running Vision Camp, focusing on mixed reality, computer vision, and camera first applications and services - everything that becomes possible when the camera knows what it’s viewing.
