Karetic Energy

Karetic Energy is an Indian deep-tech clean-energy startup developing iron-air battery technology for long-duration energy storage (LDES). Founded in 2025 and originating from research at IIT Delhi, the company aims to address the multi-day storage requirements created by the intermittency of solar and wind power. Its technology is positioned as a lower-cost alternative to lithium-ion batteries for grid-scale and industrial energy storage. The company's core technology is a rare-earth-free, non-flammable aqueous iron-air battery platform using a proprietary iron-particulate-bed architecture. Karetic reports lab-validated continuous discharge durations of approximately 100–145 hours, targeting applications where conventional lithium-ion systems become less economical for long-duration storage. Karetic Energy is developing modular storage systems for renewable-energy integration, utility-scale storage, industrial microgrids, and other applications requiring multi-day energy availability. Its approach combines electrochemistry, materials science, computational modelling, and engineering to improve battery performance, scalability, and cost. The company is currently focused on technology development, validation, pilot deployment, and commercialization. Its target customers and partners include utility companies, renewable-energy developers, industrial organizations, research institutions, and clean-energy infrastructure providers. By developing an abundant-material-based alternative to lithium-ion storage, Karetic aims to make long-duration renewable-energy storage more affordable, safer, and scalable.
