Byju Raveendran is the Founder & Chief Executive Officer of BYJU'S. He doesn’t boast a degree from IIT or IIM. Growing up in Azhikode in Kannur district of Kerala, Byju went to a Malayalam-medium school, and developed an instant affinity for mathematics and science; the two subjects that also happen to be his strong points.
What followed next was a degree in engineering, a tryst with a UK-based shipping firm called Pan Ocean Shipping Ltd, and a journey back to India, where it had all begun. During the time when he came for his vacations, Byju would spend most of his time teaching, taking CAT coaching classes – a stint that gradually became so large that he had to shift to auditoriums and eventually to large indoor stadiums, where he would be tutoring close to 25,000 students at a time.
