A designer at heart, Suhas R K is building a scooter with the longest battery range in India.
Suhas R K grew up in Bengaluru and graduated from the Siddaganga Institute of Technology in 2013, specialising in Architecture. He has used his knowledge in design to take on the onerous task of building an EV scooter with a range of 280 kilometres. His startup Simple Energy, founded in 2019, like several of other startups in the EV industry, aims to make the world greener and better place to live in. Prior to this, he had founded another startup Exar Solutions, an adtech company in 2017. Suhas believes that great design can change the world and he wants to set the precedent to a sustainable future.
Suhas writes about automotive and is inspired by how design is changing mobility. He questions existing norms of building EV scooters and believes that there is a lot of work to be done in terms of getting the product right.
“Even after an electric scooter’s battery is fully charged, its range is limited to 100 or 150 kilometres. Many electric scooters range is even shorter. This presents a challenge as electric scooters are competing against scooters that run on petrol. A scooter that runs on petrol has unlimited range because petrol stations are found everywhere. Before the masses adopt electric scooters, manufacturers will have to find a way to increase their range considerably.”
