T N Hari

A veteran of the startup ecosystem, TN Hari lends his voice to critical issues like mental health and throws long-overdue light on women of past and present.
TN Hari has juggled both the corporate and the startup world, and dons several hats as an advisor to angel investors and venture capital firms, and mentor to startup accelerators and entrepreneurs in a career spanning over three decades. He has also authored six books published, notable among them include From Pony to Unicorn, Sailing through a Storm, and Saying No to Jugaad. He is also the Strategic Advisor of scale-up platform Fundamentum. An alumnus of IIT, Madras and IIM, Calcutta, TN Hari leads online grocery unicorn BigBasket as the Head of Human Resource.

TN Hari delves into a wide range of topics, and has his hands on the pulse of the startup ecosystem. He has written on ways startups can navigate the pandemic period, managing budget and salary cuts, and COVID-19 outbreak being an opportune time to turn around businesses. Despite sharing his learnings over the years through his association with brands like Tata and Bigbasket, he is vocal about speaking on pertinent issues like gender equality, safety for women at the workplace through rigid execution of sexual harassment policies, and mental well-being. Amid the pandemic, TN Hari opened up on his early understanding of depression and bipolar disorder through his mother, and the urgent need to recognise and treat mental health. His voice as a storyteller has become apparent through narrative accounts of how women scientist in past were not acknowledged for their accomplishments, and spotlighting the work of women like Shama Karkal and Pushpakka who are uplifting sex workers. “Avoiding the rat race, especially in today’s fast-paced world, is not easy. In all likelihood, you are likely to sink into another kind of depression by avoiding the rat race.”
