Finance Ministry approves Hyderabad-based IRS officer's name, gender change
Ms M Anusuya, presently posted as Joint Commissioner, will now be officially recognised as Mr M Anukathir Surya in all official records.
The Ministry of Finance has approved the request of a Hyderabad-based Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer to officially change her name and gender.
Reports said that Ms M Anusuya, presently posted as Joint Commissioner, will now be officially recognised as Mr M Anukathir Surya—a first in the Indian Civil Service history.
The order stated, “Ms M Anusuya, IRS (C&IT: 2013) [Employee Code: 4623, DOB: 20.10.1988] presently posted as Joint Commissioner in 0/o Chief Commissioner (AR), CESTAT, Hyderabad has requested for change of her name from Ms M Anusuya to Mr M Anukathir Surya and Gender from Female to Male.”
From now on the officer will be recognised as ‘Mr M Anukathir Surya’ in all official records. The order also mentioned that the decision was taken with the “approval of the competent authority”.
Surya started his career as an Assistant Commissioner in Chennai in December 2013. He was promoted to Deputy Commissioner in April 2018 and the Joint Commissioner in January 2023.
According to his LinkedIn profile, he completed his Bachelor's in Electronics and Communication from the Madras Institute of Technology in Chennai. He also did a PG Diploma in Cyber Law and Cyber Forensics from the National Law Institute University in Bhopal in 2023.
