Leverage, the Venture Capital and Private Equity Club of IIM Ahmedabad and the Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship bring to you the 1st edition of the Venture Capital and Private Equity Conference on the 6th and 7th of February, 2009. A student run initiative, the business school symposium will bring together industry experts, practitioners, advisors, academicians, and students with the aim of identifying and addressing key issues and trends relevant to venture capitalists, private equity investors, and entrepreneurs keeping in mind the current environment. 

The theme for the first edition of the Conference, Leverage 2009 is “Venture Capital and Private Equity: Investing and Managing Portfolios in Distressed Times”.

With the regime of low interest rates, rapid economic growth, easy leverage and rising portfolio company valuations ceasing to exist, tough economic times lie ahead. The market sentiments are at an all time low and this crisis of investor confidence has forced capital markets to come face to face with the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. This entire economic conundrum is going to have far reaching implications for the private equity and the venture capital industry. Leverage 2009 will take a closer look at these implications and discuss recent trends and emerging issues in the industry, the challenges and opportunities they present, and the way ahead. The conference will also act as a forum for budding entrepreneurs to interact with investors and pre-eminent business leaders.

Unfolding with the keynote speech, the conference promises to enrich the participants on all dimensions of the theme over the two days through speaker sessions, panel discussion, workshops, and competitions. A Business Plan Showcase event will present a unique opportunity for budding entrepreneurs to interact with investors and for the most deserving plans to get seed investments. The conference will also be the platform for the launch of the first Venture Capital & Private Equity Publication of Leverage & IIM-A. The publication will be compiled from articles collected from management students and industry experts.
