Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), H P Khincha, highlighted the need to bring together various entities working independently like universities, policy makers and industries for the betterment of the society.
Delivering the Padmabhushan Dr DC Pavate Memorial Lecture on `Creativity and Entrepreneurship' at the Senate Hall of Karnatak University here, he said that universities should be able to bridge research and industry to help the growth of the national economy.
"The talent and resource of universities should be utilized effectively so that industry directly takes advantage of it. Higher education centres have the duty of teaching, research and partaking in the economic development of the society," he said, adding: "Creativity is nothing but the creation of new ideas. Realization of ideas will lead to activity and innovation and universities are the best places to do this." A fixed paradigm or mindset is a major block. Individuals of particular mindset may feel uneasy at new ideas. Prof M I Savadatti, vice-chairman of the newly created Karnataka Higher Education Council, emphasized on the necessity of discussion and sharing of ideas at all levels of education system.
