[Think Sport]: Sport brings several NGOs together, volunteer opportunity in Mumbai

Sunday February 14, 2010 , 2 min Read

Dharmesh Mistry is a contributing writer to Think Sport.

Mumbai based NGO Down to Earth (DTE) is hosting its annual sports event the ‘Interactive Games Day’ on February 21, 2010 and is looking for volunteers for the event.

The event will involve games that challenge kids physically and mentally and will require for them to work in teams. The idea is to foster a spirit of teamwork and inclusiveness amongst children from participating organizations.

DTE team member Ashishwang Godha says, “It is different than most other sports days because instead of encouraging kids to compete against each other it will bring them together through sports!” This year is the third edition of the Interactive Games Day and DTE aims to host approximately 500 children from several schools and organizations. The children will be in the age group of 10 to 16 years. Teams will be formed by mixing the kids from various schools and organisations.

DTE’s model is unique in that it brings together children and adolescents from 10 Mumbai based NGOs and offers an active platform for kids to interact. DTE’s model is built on the idea of strengthening partnerships. DTE’s weekly sports activities provide NGOs and the children they work with an alternative to their regular education and support activities.

There are a range of volunteer roles for the Interactive Games Day, so please contact Ashishwang Godha at 9870250560 or Sachi Maniar at 9820877443 and/or write to [email protected]
