This World No Tobacco Day, the Indian Dental Association (IDA) in collaboration with the Mayor of Mumbai is launching a campaign for a smoke-free Mumbai.
The occasion will also serve as a platform for IDA and the Mayor of Mumbai to create awareness amongst the general public about the harmful effects of tobacco. The focus of the campaign for a smoke-free Mumbai is to fight the tobacco epidemic and to educate people about what they can do to protect themselves and future generations. This year the WHO campaign theme is 'Gender and tobacco, with an emphasis on marketing to women’. Apart from its smoke-free campaign, the IDA will highlight the harmful effects of tobacco marketing on women through various activities and programs as women comprise about 20% of the world's more than 1 billion smokers.
