Email Marketing for the Entrepreneur

Thursday August 19, 2010 , 2 min Read

Email -- the indispensable medium of communication for the entrepreneur. In a truly flat world, email is one of the enablers of quick communication, exchange of documents, and conveyer of news. For entrepreneurs, especially the startup entrepreneur, email can become an effective marketing tool if email campaigns are handled well.

Alyssa Gregory says: “If you’re sending non-newsletter email blasts, stick to one primary message for each email sent out. The more information you pack into an email, the higher the chance the recipient’s eyes will glaze over and they’ll reach for delete.” How true! How many times you as an entrepreneur, with limited attention span for luxury of reading, have you reached for the delete button when you received a promo email or an email marketing blast.

About.com is succinct in saying, “Marketing via email is a tricky matter. It is powerful, but easily abused. It is easy, but really difficult.” Many simple things in life are difficult.

The following resources would help you design your email marketing campaign effectively.

3. Effective Email Marketing by H.G. Lewis

Review: Effective E-Mail Marketing really belongs on every email marketer's bookshelf – or next to the keyboard, rather. In this book packed with real-world examples and insightful tips Herschell Gordon Lewis shows you how to craft email marketing campaigns and newsletters the produce returns, and how to avoid the common (or uncommon) pitfalls. Don't look for technology info here, though (From www.about.com).
