India Bangalore, Singapore, 13 January 2011 – Naveen Tewari, Founder and CEO of InMobi, the world’s largest independent mobile advertising network, has recently been named one of the 50 most important people in mobile content by Mobile Entertainment (ME). The annual power list is based on an industry poll and includes business heads from global giants such as Apple, Facebook, Twitter, Nokia, Amazon, Zynga and Google, among others.
This recognition highlights InMobi’s transition from a local Asian player to the largest independent mobile ad network in the world competing strongly with Google and Apple. Headquartered in Bangalore, India, InMobi attributes much of its global success to the unique market strategy adopted by Naveen in the company’s early days. Instead of going after the larger developed markets like the US and UK, InMobi began operations and early expansions in the developing markets in Asia and Africa. The result was a capital-efficient business model where success in Asia and Africa funded expansion into the US and Europe. This reverse market strategy was a first in the history of digital media.
InMobi entered 2010 with operations in Asia and Africa serving 6 billion impressions monthly. During the year, the company successfully launched in Europe, the US, and Japan fuelling nearly 400% growth in the business and catapulting the company to Tier 1 status in the mobile advertising industry. The company differentiates itself by driving performance based results at scale globally for its advertiser, publisher, and developer clients.
Today, InMobi reaches 194 million consumers across the globe every month, serving them 26.5 billion mobile ad impressions monthly. Poised for exponential growth in 2011, InMobi is on the path to becoming one of the greatest success stories in India’s emerging venture capital economy. The company is preparing for growth acceleration in the new year and has plans to ramp up investments, beef up its teams in existing markets and enter new markets across the globe.
The top 50 list is based on an industry poll conducted by Mobile Entertainment, an online news portal that has been reporting on the mobile content business for over six years and has a total monthly audience of 100,000 industry executives. Aside from Steve Jobs, the list includes Henri Moissinac, Director of mobile, Facebook; Andy Rubin, VP of Mobile Platforms, Google; Kevin Thau, VP of business and corporate development, Twitter; Dennis Crowley, CEO, Foursquare; among other industry pioneers.
