Meher Vijaya and Suresh Jayanthi wanted to do something on their own and do it differently, which led to the birth of a creative business venture – Artjini.
So what is Artjini?
Suresh: Artjini is all about bringing an image and medium together in line with customer's thematic and physical specifications. Suppose you want a poster of jazz artist or you want to cover your entire wall (say 16" wide and 9" high) with images of jazz we can do that.
To put it in a nutshell,we are an online art store with more than 300,000 images - prints, canvas reproductions, tapestries and murals. Artjini offers artworks of artists from all over the world.
How did the business idea come about?
Suresh: Artjini was conceived after a long search for business ideas which met the following conditions- had to have internet in it, should not be a crowded space in india (preferably nobody should be operating in that space) and It should require low investment to start.
What are your plans to scale up?
Suresh: We have been in operation since February 2008. We have offline routes to market wherein we do projects and also distribute to shopping chains. E-commerce is our third route to market and the one that gives us access to the entire world. So this combination of offline retail, projects and online retail will help us grow. Scale will also come by using internet marketing effectively. Once we settle down with the website, we will plan to open our own chain of stores where customers walk in, check out the samples, choose what they want and order on the website. This way we will reach those customers who might shy away from an online purchase for a touch and feel product such as this.
