Wednesday June 08, 2011 , 1 min Read
Twitter declared that all the links shared on Twitter.com will be shortened automatically with the help of t.co URL shortener. Be it any length, they will be cut short to 19 characters at the maximum and an ellipsis whenever the sender clicks on the Tweet button. With each link being assigned with a unique t.co link ID, the users will always have an idea of the output of a click as the links will appear in abbreviated forms of the originals. This can help eradicate all the spammed tweets and also links which are out of order. It will surely save Twitter from getting defamed due to spamming of unidentified links and thereby help users share links more effectively.
It is not the end of the road. There will be many URL shorteners helping users of Twitter post links in a shortened form. Hootsuite is a good example of that, as it provides full length analytics of each and every link. Twitter has not made this feature a default option, and users can continue to use third party tools to shorten URLs on Twitter.
