Track your site visitors in real-time now with Google Analytics

Friday September 30, 2011 , 2 min Read

With the slew of new releases, launches and updates coming from Google recently, they have come up with a new magic trick for the webmasters and content publishers to spruce up things in ‘Real-Time’ with Google Analytics.

Today, Google announced through their blog post about the new feature for Google Analytics - “We’re very excited to bring real time data to Google Analytics with the launch of Google Analytics Real-Time: a set of new reports that show what’s happening on your site as it happens.”

Now you can track no. of active visitors, top active pages, no. of new visitors, returning visitors, top referral sites - everything on the fly as it is happens in real-time without having to wait for 24hrs!

The new feature will be of great value to news sites and content publishers, as they’ll be able to track every new post or article that is being actively read on the site, the kind of users who are visiting the site at different parts of the day and the top referral site at different hours and these information can be further leveraged to keep the in-coming audience engaged and to provide a richer user experience.

The Real-Time report feature will be available only in the new version of Google Analytics. If you’re not already using the new version, you can start by clicking the “New Version” link in the top right of Google Analytics. You will have access to Real-Time reports if you are an Administrator on your Analytics account, or if you have access to a profile without profile filters.

The service has not yet been enabled for all Google Analytics users, it will take few weeks to roll out the feature for all users. If you are not one of the lucky ones and can’t wait till then, you can sign up for early access here
