YourStory.in in conversation with Bhavish Aggarwal, CEO & Co-founder, Olacabs - post launch of their HTML5 mobile site.Why did you choose to go mobile with Olacabs? How has the response been so far?
We built our mobile site because car rentals and cabs are very on-the-go requirements. A significant and increasing portion of our traffic comes from mobile devices and we've started receiving multiple bookings each day through our mobile site!
How do you plan to market the mobile site?
We've already seen a lot of early adoption of our mobile site, especially among our regular users. We believe that the convenience and ease that our mobile site brings to booking cab services will be the driving force to grow adoption.
How did you go about mobile payments?
Right now, users don't need to pay when they book through their mobile. The booking gets confirmed without advance payment. Going forward, we're integrating express checkouts into the mobile site so that the users can enter their card details once and use the saved details later.
How do you see mobile commerce evolve in India? Do you see a lot e-commerce companies adopting this path?
Mobile is a fast growing channel and most companies are looking at it. Some products like cabs, movie tickets etc are more suited for sale via mobiles. For products like clothing, merchandise, electronics and other big ticket items for which consumers want to invest time to research and compare products, mobile will be more of an informational rather than a transactional channel.
What percentage of sales do you expect from Olacabs mobile site?
Car rentals and cabs are products required "on the go". With today's smartphones, we can really build a compelling booking experience for consumers, complete with one-click checkouts, real time visibility of cabs and pickup address GPS location! We believe the convenience this adds, will increase sales, eventually contributing to a big chunk of our bookings.
