Excerpts from the interview:Tell us about Mob eCommerce and the offerings.
Mob eCommerce, as the name suggest is a solution that helps to take the ecommerce websites to the hands of the customers. Our solution helps to mobilize the eCommerce shopping carts developed in platform such as Magento/Virtuemart/Prestashop/Apptha Shopping cart by giving a native iPhone/Android app of the store to the smart shoppers.
When did you launch and how much capital was required to startup?
The solution was launched on November 23, 2011. The initial capital amount for the project was about 50,000 USD.
Tell us a bit about your background and the team at Mob eCommerce.
I hold 11 yrs of experience in Outsourcing, Presales, IT infrastructure and technical support space and international business development. I was working as Service Delivery Manager in IBM global services and that is when the growth of Web development in India motivated me to start up my own web application company. In 2008 I quit my job and devoted my earnings and knowledge to the web development industry. With just two employees, we have grown up to 100+ in just three years. And about the mob ecommerce team, they are a strong team of 10 mobile experts who are passionate, creative and well experience.What technology do you use for your offering?
We are purely into open source management, providing web technology solution, mobile applications and mobile solution for ecommerce and any online service.
How many mobile stores use your services? Tell us something about your clients.
We have delivered numerous independent apps which have seen more than 40,000 download in just 2 months. We have around 250 clients using our mobile solution for ecommerce and video sharing services.
How do you market Mob eCom?
We have an in-house SEO team to gain prominence in the search engines. We explore the social media and keep our potential clients updated on our ventures through blogs and articles.
What is your revenue model?
We do have a unique business plan with a prior objective - analyze the market trend and deliver mobile and web products /services that our customers might need. In short, our focus is to satisfy the clients.
Did you face any challenges?
Well, being a start up, it was quite hard to hire the best talents and sustain the high caliber employees. But however we have managed to hold our employees by creating an inspirational workplace by developing a differentiated work culture.
How is the competition in the space you're placed in? What edge do you hold?
We face severe competition from all around the globe. Our competitors are from Fortune 500 companies to all small scale fleets. However, we maintain to serve a huge client base and growing strong.
How big is your team? Are you hiring?
We have an innovative team of developers, designers, business executives, marketing technicians and dedicated support personals altogether summing up to 100+ employees.
And about hiring, Yes. We are expanding our team with professionals who are efficient in understanding the requirements and deliver reliable applications.
What are your views on the future of e-commerce in India?
Digital downloads and e-tailing segments have reached the Indian market which clearly indicates the climbing trend of eCommerce ensuring a bright future of eCommerce in India. I join the analyst club who claim a huge expansion in the industry.
Are looking at diversifying your services in the future?
Oh Yes! We keep analyzing the market trend and examine whether our solution can be optimized to any new segment. We make use of every opportunity that opens up a new client pool.
