“After a decade of mediocre returns, the venture capital business is buzzing like it’s 1999,” says the opening line of the Midas 2012 Methodology page. The investment scenario is ripe globally and it’s fantastic to see an Indian VC in the top 100 list. Accel Partners’ Subrata Mittal made it to the list primarily for his investment in Flipkart.Indian names on the list aren’t very rare but most of them are based in the US. Subrata Mitra is placed at 99 amidst other 9 who are NRIs or of Indian Origin. A few among these are Aneel Bhusri (Greylock Partners – ranked 25), Rob Chandra (Bessemer Venture Partners - 28), Sameer Gandhi (Accel - 33), Vinod Khosla (Khosla Ventures - 34) and Neeraj Agrawal (Battery Ventures - 36). Subrata Mitra is also on the boards of health technology company Perfint, online fashion site Myntra, and online payment company enStage.
The Midas List was created with TrueBridge Capital Partners, a venture capital-focused fund of funds. Also advising on the final ranking was an expert panel made up of secret sources, including professionals from a premier global investment consulting firm and a leading foundation’s investment office.
