Launched primarily to enable customers get over the apprehension of making online payments, the cash on delivery option has also helped Indian ecommerce reach out to a wide base of shoppers across rural and semi-urban India without the precondition of possessing a banking card. Nearly half of all online shopping in India is reportedly with the COD option, and is instrumental in driving consumer adoption of online brands.
