A ComScore report released recently, revealed some interesting facts around global Internet trends. A list of the Top 7 Categories included Games at the top. An unprecedented growth in Travel, Search, SN and News was observed. It surpassed WW averages. The growth continued in Retail, Games and Health. The key drivers were content and accessibility. The Coupons category has de-grown by 38% as players have moved to allied verticals.
The report also listed the top 10 sites based upon their Year-on-Year growth. Three out of the top 10 have kept pace with the overall growth and the engagement has increased among the top 10 in terms of time spent and pages viewed. The frequency of user visits has also increased over 10-40% among the top 10.
A study on the news/information consumption revealed an explosion in the segment. A 54% growth was registered, with multiple access points including mobile and tablets. The reach average is close to the global average of 80% and is still growing. One of the most engaged categories had the figure of 5 min per visit.
An interesting revelation was the sizable international audience visitation key sites including News, Portals, Sports and Entertainment. The regional newspapers have the highest share of international audience and are the best way to reach out to NRI consumers.
