We all know about how execution is the key and only an idea won’t do anything for you. And when setting up a business, logistics is the biggest piece in the puzzle. One might even go on to say that if you streamline your logistics, more than half the battle is won.

IndiaOnTime, a young organization also believes so and is on a quest to become a very important player in the field of logistics. “We don’t want to refuse shipments, saying ‘We don’t deliver at this location’,” says founder E.S.Sudarshan.

Core Competencies

IOT has a pan India presence but, “At present we are focusing on Kerala, West Bengal and North East States in India - these are the most difficult in Indian logistics in terms of deliveries due to various local challenges - we will open up most pin codes serviced in these states by any current express company in India,” says Sudarshan.

The Team

With 25 years plus experience in the express industry from Blue Dart and Deccan 360, Sudarshan is a veteran in this field. An engineer from Madras University and an MBA from IIM Bangalore, Sudarshan is a key asset for the company. Co-Founder, Mr.Krishnan is the COO and he also headed operations for Deccan 360 and has 3 decades of experience in logistics. IOT also has a strong board of advisors.

The Launch and Growth Curve

Office Bangalore Inauguration: 12^th April, 2012

Started Operations: 14^th July, 2012

“Today we are handling 1000 shipments per day from these locations and looking at 5000 shipments by December and 10000 shipments by March 2013.” informs Sudarshan.

Customer Base and Clients

“Today, our customer base and support are from E Commerce companies. Our entry strategy is Kerala deliveries to start with. Then we build our base. There are major 60 E Com companies and we will handle Kerala deliveries for all these customers. We will open Kerala deliveries of Traditional products like pharma, textile, electronic and auto parts.” Informs Sudarshan.

Revenue Model

IOT has Business Associates in all the 45 locations they have opened currently. These are totally dedicated to IOT on an exclusive basis. The customer billing and ownership is with IOT but the pickup and deliveries will be done by the BA with their staff wearing IOT branded gear.

Point of Note

The challenges are on the productivity of operations staff. How many shipments they can deliver in one round and in a day. For the First time, a company is using Women as Delivery staff. “This has given us a huge advantage in the market with customers. There is a great discipline we are deriving from this new concept.” says Sudarshan.
