With the recent shot in the arm in the form of series D funding round, Flipkart has extended its offerings and forayed into Men's Clothing. Flipkart, India's biggest bet in the eCommerce arena has recently received some flak from skeptics but their investors have shown confidence in them time and again.
On receiving the 4th round, Sachin Bansal, co-founder and CEO of Flipkart.com had said, “We are excited to complete this round of funding, which would fuel our growth plans, and help us achieve our stated ambition of hitting USD 1 billion in gross merchandise value by 2015.”
Entering the clothing section can help them make up margins, as books still remain to be the mainstay for Flipkart (and books is where they've been taking the hit.) As of now, the clothing section has 3207 products from a wide range of labels; with 8 categories.
Flipkart has recently also increased the minimum amount for free shipping to INR 300. Shipping for the clothings remains free with all other offers still valid. This might be a good move to pounce on the customer loyalty they have managed to garner over the years; especially before other eCommerce players manage to reach the same levels of customer service.
