A Year Later, Nimbuzz's eCommerce store, NCarry to Shut Shop?
Nimbuzz combines the powers of the Internet and mobile communications into one, and lets you make calls, send messages and share files, on any mobile device, for free. A competitor to WhatsApp and in an effort to generate revenues, Nimbuzz diversified and had branched off into eCommerce an year earlier with NCarry. At that point, Medianama reported in an interview with the Keshav Bajaj of Nimbuzz that the move was inline with the company’s efforts to develop a recommendation engine, which would encourage users to upgrade their existing handset, after a specific time period, which would differ across handsets.
A year later, NCarry seems to have run out of steam.
The website is running but all the items seem to be 'out of stock'. Also, the Twitter account has been mute since April. Certainly on its deathbed, the plug might be pulled out of NCarry soon (or perhaps it has already been done).
An ex-Fedex employee who didn't want himself to be named had revealed that around 50 eCommerce accounts are setup every month in India from the last 6 months. And the key was that they weren't seeing any closures in accounts. Maybe now is the time when the eCommerce startups will start feeling the heat. Let's wait for the story to unfold.
