IIHS Accepting Applications For “Raising Funding for Social Ventures”

From the 14th to the 16th of February, the Indian Institute for Human Settlements (IIHS) will be running a three-day course on “Raising Funding for Social Ventures” in Bangalore to inform potential, fledgling, and established social entrepreneurs on the best ways to approach funding.Course sessions will focus on business model development, funding sources, investment parameters and developing effective tools to qualify for funding, in order to help these entrepreneurs understand the nuances of raising capital from both an investor and investee perspective. Over the three days, participants will be exposed to a variety of hands-on application-driven sessions, panels with impact investors, and concept/theory sessions with social entrepreneurs.

The course is targeted at social entrepreneurs in the ideation, startup, and growth stages. For enterprises in the startup and growth stages, the course serves as a platform to learn about and explore the options and opportunities for funding a social enterprise and taking it to the next level. Entrepreneurs in the ideation phase will be offered an opportunity to network with players in the industry, to learn and understand the nuances of receiving funding, and to better evaluate the opportunity that his or her idea has in the marketplace.

• Clinic 1: Concepts of Business Model

• Clinic 2: Basics of Finance

• Industry Interaction 1: Panel with Social Entrepreneurs

• Clinic 3: Sources of Funds

• Industry Interaction 2: Panel With Investors

• Clinic 4: Business Plan Essentials

• Clinic 5: Impact Investing

• Industry Interaction 3: Panel with Social Venture Facilitators

• Business Plan and Pitch Submission

The application deadline in January 31, and costs Rs. 10,000 to participate, not including residential facilities. The final list of candidates will be announced February 4, and the final date for payment is Febrary 8. To apply, applicants must fill out the online application form on the IIHS website. Applicants are asked to submit a detailed business plan along with their application.
